Pins

Photos by Mette Helena Rasmussen via things i like, things i love

I have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest and to this minute I’m still not sure how I feel about it.  Honestly one second I like it and love that it’s a really easy way to organize photos I find, especially when I want to quickly reference them later on. On the flip side I feel conflicted about all the pins and repins losing photographer credits along the way—I am still up in the air about using photos from photographers, even with crediting them and linking to their site.  I have talked about it to great lengths with three of my photographer friends and I still don’t know how I feel about it (for the record, all three said the same thing—giving credit and linking to their site, if they have one, is great).

Either way, Pinterest is very easy to use, has a pretty good iPhone app (not perfect but pretty good), and remains on my list of things I’m trying out (much like twitter where I was a late adopter but really love it!)… and now that that’s out of the way, here are a few of my pins from this week.

The below photos I’ve seen before (Domino Magazine maybe?) and are two that I have always loved. Sheepskin throws?  Even after being a vegetarian for seven years (I eat meat now), I still want some.  Really want.

Magnus Selander: Dark Floors + Hounds

Photos by Magnus Selander

There’s so much I love about these Magnus Selander photos, aside from just the really lovely photography, but I think it boils down to two things—dark floors and hounds.

I’m a huge fan of anything Eames and have loved our molded rocker from the very first day it arrived (the best gift from the best mother-in-law… of all times!), so this black one stands out and screams my name.  The photo on the right is everything I want in a floor since if all-white floors are not an option.  We redid our kitchen floors with the same dark finish and I absolutely adore them every time I walk around on them.  And that’s even with layers of dirt and filth!  ;)

Then there are these photos.  Oh Magnus, you had me the moment I laid eyes on this hound.  Look.  At.  Him.  While our hound cannot and will not sit, this one sits and immediately begs for your attention.  It also reminds me of a really interesting interview Nathan was telling me about a few days ago that speaks up on the ethics of breading.  While I definitely haven’t read enough to form a solid opinion, it does raise some really interesting questions, especially when it comes to inherited diseases.

I digress.  Bottom line, I’m really liking these photos by Magnus Selander—pretty great photographer!

Eames Dowel Legged Chairs

Eames dowel legged chairs are beautiful.  Bea-u-ti-ful.  I will patiently await my windfall while I covet these little guys from afar, but I can’t help but think about splurging for one every time I see one.

The above photo (by a really lovely photographer, Cara Robbins) is from the new Collected Magazine and is by far my favorite (ahem… it also has “HTML5″ listed on the chalkboard in the background… just, you know, wanted to mention).  Also, as a side note, Collected Magazine has been mentioned everywhere but I think that’s because this first issue was full of such great stuff…  if you haven’t looked through it, I highly recommend it.

Random but great: my friend just made a mobile for her little boy… love it!

I kinda sorta want that ceramic deer head (photographed by Luc Roymans).  Sorta meaning really quite a lot.

Cozy Beds

I have some sort of weird addiction to photos of cozy beds that I can’t resist. Saw this image today while searching through Pia Ulin’s portfolio (stunning!) and couldn’t help but mention it.

Color

I have a fear of color, as is apparent by our house and my wardrobe.  I love color but mostly when used with restraint and as we are finishing up things in the bathroom, I keep thinking about how white it is in there… we need color.  So in response to my phobia, here’s some color-therapy for the week in hopes that this weekend I can slowly start adding just a little bit of color around the house.  Just a wee-bit… easing into the idea ever so slowly.

Photos by Earl Carter

The top photo is by Damian Russell, while the bottom two are by Earl Carter.  Both are great photographers and I recommend checking them out!  If you really want to see some color, check out Earl Carter’s images sectionbold.

Have a great weekend!

Anson Smart, A New Favorite

Photos by Anson Smart

I was reading an interview of Katie Quinn Davies on Design Files this morning and noticed she mentioned photographer Anson Smart. Hmm… like his stuff!  I also recommend reading the interview if you’re looking for good inspiration sources for food and photography, or get inspired by people in the creative industry.  On a side note, hooray for the weekend!

I haven’t tried any recipes from Katie Quinn Davies’ food/photography blog What Katie Ate, but I’m dying to!  Instantly hungry and I ate five minutes ago.  Back in December she also posted a 495 page online magazine/PDF for anyone to download and browse—pretty cool.

Vision

When Nathan and I first started rehabbing I’ll admit that I didn’t have the vision that he did. We would look at different properties and instead of feeling inspired I felt overwhelmed.  Usually it was from the smell of mold, dirt, and 100 years of decay, but sometimes it was from the paralyzing fear that we could never make something this bad look good.  Or even better.

After nothing less than a few years, I was starting to get the hang of it and something changed. I would be visiting spaces and only see the potential.  Really see the potential.  It’s fun and although I also see the money, time, and energy that goes into projects of that scope, I’m still addicted to the idea of what something could be. It’s exhausting sometimes, but mostly fun.

I was reminded of all this when I was looking through Johnny Miller’s portfolio.  It brought me back to here and here and here, which immediately makes me tired, but it also made me happy.  Anyway(!), loving these photos. Some other nice photos below.
