Vision

When Nathan and I first started rehabbing I’ll admit that I didn’t have the vision that he did. We would look at different properties and instead of feeling inspired I felt overwhelmed.  Usually it was from the smell of mold, dirt, and 100 years of decay, but sometimes it was from the paralyzing fear that we could never make something this bad look good.  Or even better.

After nothing less than a few years, I was starting to get the hang of it and something changed. I would be visiting spaces and only see the potential.  Really see the potential.  It’s fun and although I also see the money, time, and energy that goes into projects of that scope, I’m still addicted to the idea of what something could be. It’s exhausting sometimes, but mostly fun.

I was reminded of all this when I was looking through Johnny Miller’s portfolio.  It brought me back to here and here and here, which immediately makes me tired, but it also made me happy.  Anyway(!), loving these photos. Some other nice photos below.

Vision is not my strength. I see only the work and am overwhelmed. I’m hopeful this could change, though, if it did for you. I love that little bedroom!

  2. I have vision problems too ;) Actually, my biggest problem is the amount of time home improvement work takes. It’s the most discouraging part.

  3. btw, this is the most beautiful website! Absolutely love the design.

Rachel! It’s so good to *hear* from you! I sneaked a peak at your blog and your kids are absolutely adorable–and three of them! :)

Yes, I know how that happens, you have a kid (or two) and suddenly you have no time whatsoever left in your life. And I felt so unhip and overwhelmed being in that place. Fortunately when they are 4 they go to kindergarten. But now I kindda sortta miss the cute teeny weeny people who can’t talk, eat, pee or poop properly so take lots of pictures and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

P.S. Really like your blog. Before I stumbled onto it I was just wondering how I could mix my love for scandinavian design with my love for wallpaper with pink and red roses on it. Also I think I would like to have a stuffed cow in the living room next to a grand piano. These things shouldn’t have to bite eachother even though they are from different stylebibles. Love your kitchen, looks like it has been there forever (I think that is good thing) especially the built in cupboard (practical as well).
